An Argument for Personalities in Islam

·223 words·2 mins

Allah says in His words, this is a sign for those who ponder, for people of reasoning, for those who listen, for people of insight (Baseerah), for those who put in the work (al-‘amileen).

Doesn’t that correspond to something of a personality, because from my understanding of those ayaats, it seems Allah is specifically directing those ayaats to people who exhibit those specific traits (which of course a person can fall under multiple categories).

And the concept of Shaakilat as described by Ust. Nouman; Allah says everyone is working on their Shaakilat (alternative meaning: everyone should [try to] work on their Shaakilat). What does that mean? Could it mean a set of traits that defines them and their tendencies?

  • Shaakil is the form/shape of something; your predisposition.

Recognize what Allah has give you and then work in accordance with that.

  • And the ta at the end makes it singular/an individual thing.

Psychology and personalities are they not ayaats of Allah too? Is it wrong to say that Allah creating everyone differently (ref: Surah Al-layl v4) is also among His signs. And why shouldn’t this constitute pondering Allah’s signs. As He (SWT) has said that in yourselves are signs too. Outside the biological marvel existing inside the human being. Isn’t it safe to consider behavioral marvels also as signs?
